The History of Poker Money
Casino chips have been manufactured from a huge range of materials in an almost endless variety of styles since the advent of gambling and the need to keep track of winnings. The most familiar materials used today in the manufacture of current poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the bunch, have been made in America since the late 19th century.
Back in the 1800s, poker enthusiasts seemed to use any small valuable object imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts occasionally used rough gold pieces as well as chips – primarily made of wood and clay. By the 20th century, poker chip features began to employ a greater prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with slits to hold them neatly arranged together.
There is no debate that poker has grown steadily in popularity ever since its origin in the 1800s. With the huge advancement of web gaming and specialty television shows, community appeal in poker has accelerated more rapidly than ever before. Most folks are first introduced to poker by television showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will participate in their initial hands on the internet. Despite web poker’s growth, not much competes with the feeling of shuffling weighty poker chips in your hands, tossing chips into the middle of a casino table, or creating tall pilesstacks of chips after showing a winning hand.
