No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
