Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
