NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
