Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
