No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?
Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he loved betting on various card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played many hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and concentrate more on the game.
The real advancement in his skills began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently challenge each other. Howard was able to access several of the best minds in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy ideas in the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the best female players the poker world has ever seen. Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
