NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
