No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
